Val Kilmer Confirmed To Be Coming Back as Iceman in TOP GUN: MAVERICK!

When it was first reported that the long-awaited Top Gun sequel was officially moving forward, I was really hoping that director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) and Tom Cruise would bring back Val Kilmer to reprise his role of aviator Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, who as you know was Cruise's rival in the first movie.

Well, according to The Wrap, Kilmer will be back! The film has started shooting San Diego, CA and Cruise even shared a photo last week. Kilmer has also been spotted around the San Diego hotel the studio has been using since production began.

Last year, Kilmer expressed interest in wanting to come back for Top Gun: Maverick and also teased at one point that he was offered the role and that he accepted. Not long after he shared that announcement, Kilmer updated his Facebook post and said he had been premature in making the announcement:

"This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun… An innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent…"

Well, it's good to see that everything worked out in the end! It'll be fun to see Iceman and Maverick back up on the big screen together!

We don't know much about the plot of the film yet, but we do know that it's going to be a competition film like the first one. It will also show us Maverick's progression and it will involve Jets, not drones.
