F9: THE FAST SAGA is The First in a Trilogy of Films That Will Close Out The Franchise

The Fast and Furious franchise was originally supposed to end with the tenth film. Then last year, Vin Diesel teased that the tenth film could be split into two, well… now he’s confirmed that is the plan. During a recent press conference, Diesel explained:

"As you know, we get to travel to all these wonderful places. And they're part of the reason why Fast 10 has to be broken into two different movies – it’s because there's so much ground to cover. And there's so many places in so many locations in the world that we have to visit."

Director Justin Lin also says in another interview with THR that he actually sees F9: The Fast Saga as the “first chapter” in a trilogy that will bring an end to the franchise.

“I was thinking of it as one chapter. It became very clear to me that if we were going to do that, we were going to need some real estate. To the studio’s credit, it was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ That’s what we’ve been doing since I’ve been back…processing it as almost like a trilogy as a final chapter.”

So, the franchise will now officially end with an eleventh Fast and Furious film, which Diesel calls Fast 10.2. While he’s saying the reason is there’s so much ground to cover with the locations, we all know that the studio and creative team just want to keep milking the franchise for all that it’s worth.

As long as they keep making crazy and absurd over-the-top movies, I’ll show up to watch. The franchise has basically become a parody of itself.

A new trailer for F9: The Fast Saga dropped yesterday and it will be released on June 25th.
