Vin Diesel Has Not Joined James Cameron's AVATAR Sequels
A few years ago Vin Diesel shared a video from the set of James Cameron’s Avatar sequels and it sparked reports that the Fast and Furious actor might be joining the Avatar sequels.
In the video, Cameron said, “Okay, so here we are on the set of Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5. It’s top secret, it’s like the Manhattan Project.” He then joked, “My old buddy Vin, and we’re actually gonna give him the flashy thing from Men in Black when he leaves here so he has no memory whatsoever.”
Diesel added, “You never saw this. But I’ll tell you, it’s long overdue. There is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from.”
So, of course, people were thinking that he was going to have a role in these sequels. But, it turns out that’s not the case. Producer Jon Landau recently confirmed with Empire that Diesel is not going to appear in any of the sequels. He said: “Vin was a fan. He came in, visited the set one day to see what we were doing and people took that out of context.”
That’s ok, the Avatar franchise doesn’t really need Diesel, it’s going to be just fine without him. Diesel is currently shooting the final two installments of the Fast and Furious franchise. I have no idea what Diesel is going to do after that.
When talking about the future of the Avatar franchise, Landau went on to say: “Hopefully, The Way Of Water came to its own conclusion, as I think each movie will. But they do set things up because we get more and more invested in these characters. Where does Kiri go? What is Lo’ak up to? What decisions will Jake and Neytiri have to make? All of those things will continue to drive our story.”
Cameron’s plan consisted of four Avatar sequels overall, with three still to come. He might even do a couple more! Regardless, this is going to be a very successful franchise, and I think Cameron will get to tell as many of these Avatar stories as he wants.
