Vincent D'Onofrio Explains How Fans Will Be Blown Away By The Kingpin's Role in DAREDEVIL Season 3

Fans were very happy to hear that Vincent D'Onofrio would be returning to the role of Wilson Fisk a.k.a. The Kingpin in Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil Season 3. We really don't know what to expect from the upcoming season, but in a recent interview with Collider, D'Onofrio talks about it and says that fans will be blown away by what they are doing with his character.

When asked how the new season compares to his previous seasons of the show, the actor explains that the character is evolving:

"It’s hard to top the first season, with Steven DeKnight’s writing, but Erik Oleson (the new showrunner) is a very good writer. I’ve shot some pretty cool scenes, so far. It’s different, but it’s very Fisk. It’s still very emotional. The character is evolving. His whole deal is based on emotion, so we’re taking him down that role further. There are new focuses and new goals. That’s all I can say. If it was up to me, I would go on and on and on about it because it’s so interesting, but it’s so important to them, for us to keep our mouths shut."

He then went on to tease what it is that will blow fans away, especially with how they will be playing with aspects of Fisk and Daredevil's history that fans have been waiting for:

"I can only say that we’re doing things that are just going to blow the fans away. We’ve already shot some things that are just going to be neat for the fans. There’s some awesome things that are very much in the history of Fisk and Daredevil, that people have been waiting for. We’ve already put some of that stuff in the can, and there’s a lot more to do. I think they’re gonna be very happy."

I can't wait to see what they are doing with his story arc this time around. Charlie Cox previously teased that Season 3 would be inspired by the "Born Again" story arc from the comics. If you're not familiar with the "Born Again" story arc, it's one of the must-read Daredevil comics. Kingpin definitely has a big and interesting role in the story.

D'Onofrio goes on to talk about the deal he made with Marvel in playing Wilson Fisk, and he says that he has some leeway on how often he appears in the series:

"I have a standing agreement with [Marvel Television president] Jeph Loeb. We made a deal, before the first season, that I could come in and out of the show. We made an agreement that we would give each other a head’s up, throughout the years, so they’d know my availability. So, we picked a particular amount of time that he would give me the heads up on, if they needed me to come in. That particular amount of time, I won’t tell you, but that’s the agreement that we have."

I'm sure Daredevil Season 3 won't be the last time we see Kingpin in the Marvel Netflix Universe. A deal like this will allow for the character to be a long time fixture.

Daredevil Season 3 is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2018.
