Warner Bros CEO Says James Gunn Is "On a Mission From God" with SUPERMAN: LEGACY

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was so damn good that it got me even more excited about what James Gunn is going to bring to DC Studios, specifically Superman: Legacy, which he’s writing and directing. During the latest Warner Bros. Discovery earnings call, CEO David Zaslav teased the greatness of what Gunn is planning. He said:

"We got James Gunn and Peter (Safran) working very hard on DC, which is going to be a very big growth driver for this company. We are very bullish on DC. The Superman script first draft is done. Gunn is on a mission from god. It is a really good moment to prove out on DC what we got and how strong it is globally for long-term sustainable growth."

Gunn is on a mission from God! Ha! I’m not sure about that, but I believe that he’s going to do some great things with the DC Cinematic Universe.

Superman: Legacy will introduce a new version of Superman, and it will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

I’ve heard that Gunn has an actor that he wants to have play Clark Kent/Superman, but I have no idea when he will announce it. The actor isn’t well-known. When previously talking about the type of actor he is looking to cast in the role, he said: "It's hard, but we're looking, and we actually have some really great choices, which I'm excited about. But it has to be somebody who has all of the humanity that Superman has, but he's also an alien. It's gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has. And it has to be somebody that you want to give a hug."

Superman: Legacy will kick off the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1, and that will be followed by The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and more.

Pre-production on the movie kicked off last month, with costumes, production design “and more” now “up and running.”
