WB Looking To Expand The HARRY POTTER Universe; May Include an Adaptation of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD
When the Harry Potter films exploded at the box office making Warner Bros. tons and tons of money, fans knew that when it ended it wouldn’t be the end of the franchise. Not long after, they moved forward with their Fantastic Beast movies, which have also been a big hit with fans.
Well, as the studio continues to make those films, they are plotting the future of the franchise and looking to continue to expand on the Harry Potter universe. During an appearance at an investors conference, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar teased:
"There's this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises. And we're incredibly thankful to be able to partner with J.K. Rowling and so I would argue there's a lot of fun and potential there as well.”
Kilar didn’t elaborate on what those future Harry Potter development plans might be, but it was previously reported that WB has been exploring ideas for a live-action Harry Potter series on HBO Max.
This latest report also says that there’s also talk that the studio “could be developing a new tentpole based on the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play.” A film adaptation of that play would not surprise me at all. In fact, I think most fans expected the play to be adapted into a film one day.
This is a valuable franchise and WB is going to get everything that they can out of it as long as there’s a strong and loyal audience there to enjoy what they produce.
