Welcome Back to the Grid: Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges Unveil Visually Stunning TRON: ARES Trailer at CinemaCon

Tron is finally stepping out of the computer and into our world!

At Disney’s CinemaCon panel, Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges took the stage to give fans a first look at Tron: Ares, the long-awaited third chapter in the Tron franchise. And if the new trailer is anything to go by, this movie is going to be awesome! You can watch our video reaction to it here. The film, directed by Joachim Rønning, picks up years after Tron: Legacy. This time, the story flips the script: instead of humans entering the digital world, Tron: Ares sends a program into ours.

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”

Leto, who plays Ares, didn’t hide his excitement for the film, saying: “As a kid, I was obsessed with Tron. It took me to a world I’ve never seen before and I couldn’t get enough. It was the ’80s, and it felt like the future was just around the corner.”

Bridges, who originated the role of Kevin Flynn in the 1982 original, returned for the panel and lent his voice to the trailer, which closes with an ominous: "There's no going back."

The footage was pure digital adrenaline.

It opens with a sweeping shot of a bustling city as red-lit Light Cycles tear across the freeway. Police chase close behind, until one bike slices a cop car in two with a trailing beam of energy from the Light Cycle. "I'm looking for something I do not understand," Leto’s Ares says in voiceover.

Ominous Recognizers hover over the city terrifying people. Ares comes to life. Chaos rains down as a fleet of ships descends from the sky. Greta Lee (playing a cop) looks up as the city erupts into sci-fi madness. The imagery is sleek, aggressive, and futuristic, and its something fans have been waiting for!

“This movie will hit you right in the grid,” Leto promised. He described his character as being on a “do or die mission to fulfill his direction.”

Alongside Leto, Tron: Ares boasts a stacked cast: Evan Peters as the villainous Julian Dillinger, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

After years of silence following Tron: Legacy, Disney is finally plugging back in — and this time, the Grid’s coming with it.ron.

Tron: Ares speeds into IMAX theaters October 10.
