WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Michael Giacchino Reportedly in Talks to Helm Marvel's MIDNIGHT SONS
It looks like Marvel Studios may be gearing up for a supernatural showdown with the Midnight Sons, and Michael Giacchino, the director behind Marvel’s horror special Werewolf by Night, is rumored to be leading the charge.
If you're a fan of the darker, more mystical side of Marvel, this is news I think we all hope ends up being true. It’s been fun to see Marvel dip its toe into the shadowy depths of the horror and supernatural, but I want more of it.
Midnight Sons is a project that's been talked about since the credits rolled on Marvel’s Moon Knight series. Now, Marvel movie scooper Daniel Richtman is Giacchino is attached/in talks to helm the movie, which I think a lot of fans would love to see become a reality.
Michael Giacchino is primarily known for his movie scores, but he made his splashy directorial debut with Werewolf by Night. His knack for blending the horror, monster, and macabre, with the supernatural made it a fan-favorite project, garnering acclaim for its unique tone within the MCU. He’s a perfect choice for Midnight Sons, and Giacchino has proven he can handle the eerie and the supernatural in fun and unique ways.
For those of you not familiar, the Midnight Sons are Marvel's response to things that go bump in the night. They are supernatural superheroes who tackle supernatural threats. The team's roster has varied over the years but has included characters from the darker corners of the Marvel Universe. With characters like Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, and the recent addition of Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing, and the upcoming introduction of Blade to the MCU, the foundation for this supernatural squad has been laid.
The addition of Midnight Sons in the MCU would offer a wonderfully dark counterpoint to the universe's brighter spots. Oscar Isaac, who is fresh off his stint as Moon Knight, has expressed excitement at the prospect, hinting at the rich potential dynamics and character explorations a team-up like this could offer.
Isaac said: "I thought there was an interesting opportunity with Midnight Sons. There’s such interesting characters in there, and now that we’ve set the groundwork with learning who Marc, Steven, Jake are, it could be an interesting opportunity to see him as part of a team and what that dynamic would be. So I think that would be exciting, I think for me, I definitely hope there’s some room to explore that possibility."
