WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Michael Giacchino Unleashes New Comic That Pits the Wolf Against Dracula

Michael Giacchino is jumping back into the monstrous world of Marvel with a new comic one-shot Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise. And this time, he's bringing Dracula to the monster bash.

The comic, arriving July 30, is being written by Giacchino with art by David Messina. It’ll also include a backup story by Jason Loo, writer of Marvel’s bloodier Werewolf by Night: Red Band series, along with additional bonus content still under wraps.

Giacchino told Entertainment Weekly: "It could be a lost story from the original run, in a way. It's Dracula who has tracked him down to exact some revenge from the last time that they were together in the comics. There's a fun twist to it that I think is going to be really interesting for people who are into Jack Russell and that lore."

While Giacchino kept the plot details under wraps, he did tease the arrival of a third character who longtime fans will instantly recognize. Given the character's past connections, it's easy to imagine someone like Man-Thing, Jack’s buddy in the MCU, or even Moon Knight stepping into the story.

At the heart of it, Giacchino’s fascination with these monster characters remains the emotional engine behind the project.

"I like the monster stories. I like how they humanize what are otherwise described or seen by the rest of the world as awful creatures and...well, monsters," Giacchino says.

"I never saw them that way. I always saw them as people with some sort of problem that they needed help with. I always felt bad for them. I really did. So there's this emotional attachment to those stories, which is still with me today."

Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise #1 lands in shops on July 30 with a ferocious cover by Tyler Kirkham. If you loved Giacchino’s Halloween special, this comic might just be your next full moon fix.
