Weta Workshop Takes You Behind-The-Scenes of Crafting The Tech Suits For THE WANDERING EARTH

We’ve been talking a lot about the epic sci-fi Chinese film The Wandering Earth lately, and that’s because it’s seriously an awesome movie! Today I learned a cool new thing about the development of the film that I didn’t previously know and that is that Weta Workshop worked on several elements of the stunning visual effects of the movie!

They recently released a video giving us a behind-the-scenes look at some of the work that they did in designing, creating, and building the Tech Suits that the characters wear in the movie. Those suits included technical exoskeletons, domed helmets, and specialty backpacks. I loved the designs of these suits and it’s so cool to see all the work that was put into bringing them to life.

Hailed as "China's first full-scale interstellar spectacular" (The Hollywood Reporter), The Wandering Earth has launched in cinemas worldwide. Directed by Frant Gwo, the film adapts Hugo Award-winning author Liu Cixin's story about a desperate mission to save a doomed Earth.

The film is an adaptation of the 2000 novella of the same name written by Liu Cixin, and this is the synopsis:

The sun is dying out. The earth will soon be engulfed by the inflating sun. To save the human civilization, scientists draw up an escape plan that will bring the whole human race from danger. With the help of thousands of infusion powered engines, the planet earth will leave the solar system and embark on a 2,500 year journey to the orbit of a star 4.5 light years away.

The movie will be coming to Netflix, but this is a film that begs to be seen on the big screen, so if you have the opportunity to watch it on the big screen… do it!

The Wandering Earth was directed and written by Frant Gwo, and the cast includes Qu Chuxiao, Li Guangjie, Ng Man-tat and Zhao Jinmai, with a special appearance by Wu Jing.
