WIDOW'S BAY Renewed for Season 2 as Creator Katie Dippold Signs New Overall Deal With Apple TV+

Apple TV is doubling down on one of its most entertaining new genre series. Just ahead of next week’s Season 1 finale, the streamer has officially renewed Widow’s Bay for a second season.

At the same time, Apple is strengthening its relationship with series creator Katie Dippold, who has signed a new multi-year overall deal with the company.

While details of the agreement haven’t been revealed, the deal is said to cover television projects as well as a first-look arrangement for feature films. It’s a clear sign that Apple sees Dippold as a creative force worth investing in for the long haul.

The renewal news isn’t much of a surprise for anyone who has been watching Widow’s Bay. The horror-comedy has carved out a unique space with its mix of creepy mythology, quirky characters, and sharp humor.

It’s the kind of show that can make you laugh one minute and leave you wondering what nightmare is lurking around the corner the next.

Apple TV’s Head of Programming, Matt Cherniss, celebrated the announcement, saying: “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created.

“It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

The series has been a blast to watch. The blend of horror, comedy, and island folklore works incredibly well, and there’s plenty of mystery left to explore. I’m excited for what will be coming in the new season!

The series was created by Dippold and developed alongside Emmy-winning executive producer and director Hiro Murai. The story centers on Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, a man desperately trying to breathe new life into his struggling island community.

The official logline reads: “In Widow’s Bay, something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed.

“He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination.

“Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.”

As for what’s coming next, Dippold offered a perfectly suspicious tease about Season 2: “Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.”

Sure, Katie. We totally believe you.

Joining Rhys in the cast are Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, with supporting performances from K Callan and Emmy winner Jeff Hiller.

Murai executive produces alongside Dippold through Chum Films, with Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys also serving as executive producers. Murai directed five episodes during the first season, while the remaining episodes were helmed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.

The first season wraps up on June 17, and now fans can head into the finale knowing that the strange mysteries, island curses, and darkly funny chaos of Widow’s Bay will continue in Season 2.
