Will Arnett Tackles Stand-Up and Self-Discovery in New Trailer for IS THIS THING ON?
Searchlight Pictures has released a newtrailer for Is This Thing On?, and it introduces a warm and surprisingly emotional comedy about starting over, finding your voice, and stepping into one of the most intimidating arenas in entertainment.
Will Arnett leads the movie as Alex, a recently divorced dad trying to rebuild his life by attempting stand-up in New York City.
The film is inspired by the experiences of British comedian John Bishop, and the trailer teases a story filled with awkward moments, honest humor, and the kind of vulnerability that comes with reinventing yourself. Alex’s ex-wife is played by Laura Dern, and their dynamic looks like it will hit both comedic and emotional notes.
The film also features a strong supporting cast including Andra Day, Sean Hayes, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, Peyton Manning, and Amy Sedaris.
Bradley Cooper not only directs but appears in the film as well. He co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Chappell and Arnett.
The film feels like a mix of down to earth comedy and genuinely heartfelt character work. Alex’s journey through the unpredictable New York stand-up scene sets up plenty of uncomfortable laughs, but it’s the reflective moments that give it real weight.
This is Cooper’s third time directing after A Star Is Born and Maestro, and he continues to build an impressive filmmaking path alongside his acclaimed acting work in projects like Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper, and American Hustle.
Is This Thing On? will be released in theaters in December.
