Will Poulter Addresses The Future of Adam Warlock After GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
I’m curious to see how audiences react to Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. I thought the character was handled well in his big Marvel movie debut and I hope that we get to see more of him in the future.
This character has been teased for years and now we finally get to see the golden god in action, and he is a force to be reckoned with. Now that he’s been introduced to the MCU, what does the future hold for him!? Poulter addressed this question in an interview with CB, saying:
"It kind of hinges on how people respond to the character. If the fans don't like Adam Warlock, obviously I'm going to be pretty gutted. My family's opinion means a lot, but it's not necessarily going to bring me back as the character."
I have a feeling we’ll see him again. I’m just not sure when or in what movie, but I think audiences are going to enjoy the character.
When previously talking about the character, James Gunn shared that he is basically a villainous baby in the movie: “It’s kind of more complicated than that, but he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.”
Gunn went on to talk about why he cast Poulter as Adam Warlock, saying: “People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock.’ I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future. He could become this really important character.”
There’s also a clip that’s been released of Warlock battling Nebula and it showcases what the Guardians find themselves up against.
Poulter also talked about the audition process he went through to land the role, saying: "When I first auditioned for Adam and sent in a tape, I really didn't even know who I was auditioning for. I was auditioning for an untitled character, so that was confusing but eventually, I was drip-fed the information about the being I was trying to portray. I knew that this character had been teased at the end of the second movie, but it was a welcome surprise to find out it was a character that's been steeped in this comic book history and crosses over with [Chukwudi Iwuji's] character."
The film is set to hit theaters on May 5th, 2023.
