Will Smith and Joel Edgerton to Star in Fantasy Cop Thriller BRIGHT From SUICIDE SQUAD Director

Joey already mentioned this briefly this morning in his write-up about a potential Suicide Squad sequel, but I think it's worth singling out into an article of its own. The Wrap reports that Suicide Squad director David Ayer is set to direct an original film called Bright that has Joel Edgerton and Squad actor Will Smith on board to star.

The script comes from Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein), and it takes place in a world in which fairies and orcs live alongside humans. It's a fantasy cop thriller, with one of the lead characters being an orc cop. Hopefully that role ends up going to Smith, because he's already played a handful of human cops and it'd be interesting to see him do something with a different twist to it.

The film is expected to have a "significant" budget, and though it's being shopped around to studios right now, there's a possibility it could end up at Warner Bros. (where Smith and Ayer just made Suicide Squad) when all is said and done. Landis is far from my favorite writer, but Ayer recently rewrote his script, so this project could easily go either way right now. We'll keep you in the loop.
