Will Smith is Developing a FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR Spinoff Series
It looks like Will Smith is going back to his roots with a new project that he’s developing through his production company, Westbrook. According to THR, they are producing a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air spinoff series.
There are no details on what the series will entail, but a few years ago when it was rumored that this was happening, it was said that it would put “a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.” However, when this was brought up with Smith shortly after the rumors broke, he said, “I don’t think ever—like, pretty close to when Hell freezes over. Pretty close, like, we’re gonna leave that one alone.”
Well, I guess hell has frozen over and I imagine we can thank climate change for that. As a fan of the original series, I’d be interested in seeing what they plan on doing with the series. I’d be more open to some kind of revival than a complete reboot. But, the specific call this project a spinoff series, so that could deal with anything or anyone.
It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think that this spinoff series could end up being developed for a streaming service like NBC’s Peacock of WarnerMedia’s HBO Max. After all, it was Warner Bros who distributed the original series.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this spinoff and what it will exactly entail. In the meantime, let us know what you would like to see in a Fresh Prince spinoff series.
