Will Smith Says BAD BOYS: RIDE OR DIE Won't Just Be a "Victory Lap," But Will "Push the Envelope" and Take "Some Really Aggressive Creative Shots"
It’s been almost 30 years since Will Smith and Martin Lawrence partnered to appear in the first Bad Boys movie, and now we are about to see them return to the roles of police detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett their fourth film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
The stars are serious about taking on a fourth movie in the franchise that has become a favorite of its fans, and the pair chatted about the endeavor in a recent interview with Empire, where Smith explained:
“It has to feel like it earned its right to be a movie today. I always hate when you see sequels that are victory laps. In Ride Or Die we’re taking some really aggressive creative shots. We wanted to push the envelope of how much life experience and age specificity you can put into these movies. With this movie we’re being really aggressive in stretching what you can do in a summer action movie. There’s a spiritual aspect to it that I think people will be like, ‘Okay, that’s an interesting evolution for Marcus’ character.’”
Lawrence agrees, and he’s ready to wrestle with bigger things for his character. He teased:
“They found something interesting and different from all the movies we’ve done. In four, you’re gonna see something different. I’m going to carry on as long as my brother carries on. It’ll be very hard to get rid of me.”
In the upcoming film, Lowrey and Burnett are tasked with clearing Captain Howard's name, but as they start that mission, it seems like they're being set up as well. So, they go on the run while trying to clear their names.
The movie is being directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and it also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, Tasha Smith, John Salley, Eric Dane, DJ Khaled, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, Joyner Lucas, and Quinn Hemphill.
This looks like it’s going to be a really fun sequel! It’s currently scheduled to release on June 14, 2024. Are you excited to check out this summer blockbuster?
