WOLF MAN Director Reveals The Next Universal Horror Movie He Wants To Make

Leigh Whannell, the director behind Universal’s The Invisible Man and Wolf Man, wants to continue his run directing monster movies for Universal and he recently revealed the next one that he’d like to take on.

During an interview with Screen Rant, Whannell was asked which other monster movie he’d want to make and he responded with Jekyll and Hyde.

Whannell explained: “I’ve always thought Jekyll and Hyde. That book, when I was a kid, really creeped me out, the concept of it. Of all the monsters, that one used to really stay with me.

“There’s something about the hero and the villain being the same person. I think it would be a really good modern version of Jekyll and Hyde. I don’t know exactly what it would be.”

I love the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story and I’m a fan of the original film adaptation and I think Whannell would turn that into a wild horror movie.

The book was written by Robert Louis Stevenson, and it tells the story of a well-respected London doctor, Dr. Henry Jekyll, who is tormented by his darker impulses.

In an attempt to separate his good and evil sides, Jekyll creates a potion that transforms him into Mr. Edward Hyde, a violent and morally depraved alter ego who embodies all the base desires and cruelty Jekyll seeks to hide.

As Hyde, Jekyll indulges in increasingly brutal and destructive acts, eventually losing control over the transformations. The story climaxes with the discovery that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person.

This is such a compelling story because it explores the duality of human nature, the battle between good and evil within every individual. The horror of losing control over one’s darker self, combined with the moral implications of Jekyll's experiment, makes it a powerful and unsettling tale.
