YELLOWSTONE Season 6 Was Going To Introduce a Long-Lost Dutton Brother
The original plans for Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone would have taken the series through, at least, Season 6. The season was being written and Kevin Costner confirmed those plans, which he was negotiating to return for until everything fell apart. Now Costner is out, and he’s not returning to play John Dutton.
Had the series been able to continue, the story would’ve introduced a long-lost Dutton brother, and that character would’ve been played by Christian rocker Cory Asbury. He shared the news himself during an interview with Taste of Country, saying:
"I was supposed to be Kayce's long-lost brother. We were gonna move to Montana for a full year. We were ready ... Anna (his wife) gave me the OK and our kids were like, 'OK, cool, we'll live in Montana.'"
He added:
"I was fired up about it and so bummed when it was canceled. So bummed."
Yeah, what a great opportunity to get, and then to have it all come crashing down is definitely a big bummer. It really is a shame that Paramount and Costner couldn’t work things out.
I know the story will continue with a spinoff series that Matthew McConaughey is set to star in, but I wanted to see how this main story would’ve played out. That would’ve been the superior story to tell. This next chapter is just a kind of band-aid fix for what they can’t do now. Regardless, I hope it’s a great spinoff.
