YU-GI-OH! SEVENS to Premiere in Japan in Early April

The Yu-Gi-Oh! anime has been around for roughly 20 years now and to celebrate, Konami is creating Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens. This anime will feature a protagonist in fifth grade, which is younger than usual for the anime, who is participating in a new mechanic called Rush Duels. My guess is that this is going to be more or less Speed Duels put into the anime with a few twists. We’ve known about the anime for a couple of months now, but thanks to the official Twitter, fans now know the show will debut in Japan on April 4. There’s no word on the English release, but I would love it if they did a simuldub.

The anime will feature a protagonist in elementary school for the first time in the franchise. The anime will have a new ‘Rush Duel’ rule. The anime takes place in the future in the town of Gōha. Yūga Ōdō, a fifth-grade student, loves both inventions and dueling. His classmate Luke is a self-styled ‘number one duelist at Gōha 7 Elementary School.’ Gakuto is the school’s student council president, and Romin is Yūga’s classmate.

Are you excited to see Speed Duels brought to the anime? How do you think they’ll handle the whole character skill mechanic? That’s probably why their Rush Duels and not Speed Duels. Maybe the skills are how the anime will celebrate 20 years though. There’s only one way to find out.
