Zach Cregger Shuts Down Rumors About His Batman Movie Script

Zach Cregger has finally cleared the air about his mysterious Batman Henchman project that has been floating around online.

Last month, THR spotlighted Cregger’s growing slate of projects following the success of his horror film Weapons. Among the titles mentioned was Henchmen, a DC Universe story set in Gotham City about low-level crooks who accidentally kill Batman and rise to infamy. T

he article hinted that characters like Joker and Harley Quinn could appear, which immediately set the rumor mill on fire.

Cregger first teased Henchmen years ago while promoting Barbarian, calling it his dream project. At the time, he said:

“If I got the call, I would drop everything and go make that movie in a heartbeat. It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever written. I love it, and I’m dying to make it.”

But speculation about Henchmen being a Batman movie spun out of control recently, and Cregger decided to finally set the record straight. Speaking on the Double Toasted podcast, he explained:

“This is funny. This has been blown out of proportion online. So, yeah, I wrote Henchmen, which is a story that takes place in the DC Universe, like years before I wrote Barbarian, and I really love it.

But it’s not a Joker and Harley script. I’ve seen that online. And, no, I haven’t talked to James Gunn about it. I haven’t really talked to anyone at [DC Studios] about it.”

So for now, Henchmen is just sitting around collecting dust, and there’s no sign of it being developed under DC Studios. Cregger’s attention is locked on his next big gig, which is bringing Resident Evil back to the big screen.

Sony snatched up the project in a heated bidding war, and Cregger will both write and direct. His Weapons star Austin Abrams has already signed on to lead the film.

Production on Resident Evil kicks off this fall, with the film hitting theaters on September 18, 2026.
