Zack Snyder Says Henry Cavill is His "Past, Present and Future" of Superman
In celebration of the ninth anniversary of the release of Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder shared a behind the scenes photo of himself with Henry Cavill on the set of the film. The photo came along with the caption: “My Superman past present future."
I like Cavill as Superman! He fit the role so well and it would be great to see Warner Bros. wise up and make another Superman film with the actor! I don’t know what the studio has been thinking, but there’s a lot more story to be told with this version of Superman and it would be a shame if some of those stories never got told.
Cavill previously talked about the future of Superman saying, "There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity. There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, 'The cape is still in the closet.'"
The question is, will Warner Bros. ever make another Superman movie with Cavill? They are under new management new after they were bought by Discovery, so maybe there’s a chance now? I don’t know! One thing we know for sure… Snyder will not be directing the film if it ever happened.
As of right now, the only Superman film project in development is the one coming from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, and it will tell the story of a Black version of Superman. There’s also a Supergirl film in development, and Michael B. Jordan was developing another Superman series for HBO Max. I’m not sure what the status of those projects currently is.
