Zack Snyder Says Jared Leto's Joker Will Have a New Look in JUSTICE LEAGUE
A few weeks ago we learned that Jared Leto would be reprising his role as Joker in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League: Director’s Cut. It was a surprising bit of news that fans weren't expecting and there’s been a lot of speculation in regards to how he’ll be utilized in the story.
Most people think that he’ll appear in a flashback scene involving the death of Robin. One report suggests, “If Zack and David stick with the story of having Joker brutally beat Robin to death then set his body on fire then there’s no doubt in my mind that it happened in Wayne Manor and the fire is what left the house looking like that.”
While Snyder isn’t sharing any details on Joker’s role in the story, he does confirm in an interview with Beyond the Trailer that Joker will be sporting a new look, saying:
"It is true. I wanted to of course honor what had been created with him because I thought it was really cool; but also in this, I'm not going to tell you what happens in the little scene, but some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between when last we saw Joker and this appearance. So he's made some...he's a road-weary Joker, I guess that's a way of saying it.
"I will say it was fun having a segment of the band together for this little vignette if you will. Working with Jared was really amazing, his attention to detail, he really cares a lot about it being awesome. It was fun and everyone did an amazing (job). Even trying to shoot in COVID is a bit of a deal but everyone brought like huge A game and really wanted it to be cool, and I couldn't be happier with what those guys did.
He also spoke about calling Leto to talk to him about reprising his role and how the idea came to him while filming Justice League back in 2016. He went on to say:
"I will say that he was really gracious with his entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like even when I was working on Justice League in London I felt like was an inevitable course that the movie had to take. So when I told him it was a thing that I'd been kicking around in my head for quite a while I feel like he just kinda warmed up to the idea that was kind of an inevitable thing that kinda of has to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it."
HBO Max gave Snyder a $70 million budget to realize his full vision of Justice League. Snyder’s cut of the movie will be four hours long and will be split up into four hour-long episodes. The more I learn about what is being done to bring this vision of Justice League together, the more interested I get in watching it.
Justice League: Director’s Cut will be released on HBO Max in 2021.
