Zendaya and Robert Pattinson Look Wildly Checked Out in A24’s First Trailer for THE DRAMA

A24 released the debut trailer for its new film The Drama, and it immediately sets up a wonderfully chaotic story for its leads Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.

The movie, directed by Kristoffer Borgli, follows Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, a seemingly happy engaged couple whose wedding week unravels in ways they never expected. The studio’s known for pushing its characters into uncomfortable territory, and this first look leans right into that energy.

The trailer shows Emma and Charlie standing stiffly in front of a gray backdrop as a photographer tries to coax a natural moment out of them. She senses “some nerves” and asks them to smile and talk about what they love most about each other.

A montage cuts in as Charlie describes Emma as “beautiful” and “funny” and says she has “the best laugh.” Emma follows up by calling Charlie “caring, understanding and open-minded,” with that last word landing over a quick, shot of her slapping him across the face during sex.

The photographer tries to hold the vibe together with a gentle reminder. “Remember, you know each other really well,” he says, hoping they can connect with whatever affection they have for each other.

From there the preview spirals. Mamoudou Athie appears to make a toast at their wedding. An alarm blares in a hallway. Charlie hurls a chair with full dramatic flair. He later mutters “just some drama” on the street, while Emma knocks back a gulp of brown liquor like she’s preparing for battle.

This looks like it’s going to be a messy, darkly funny descent into relationship chaos.

A24 also shared a fun extra touch on Instagram, posting what looks like a real Boston Globe wedding announcement teasing “the wedding of the year.”

It paints a neat little backstory for the couple. Emma’s father is described as “a decorated military veteran” who is proud to announce their engagement. Emma grew up in Louisiana and studied English at Boston University.

Charlie earned a PhD in art history from Tufts and works as the director of the Cambridge Arts Museum. It all feels charmingly proper.

A24 wants us to save the date for April 3, 2026 when The Drama arrives.
