Evan Goldberg Talks PINEAPPLE EXPRESS 2 & NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

I am excited to finally be able to see The Green Hornet which opens this weekend. Press for the film is in full swing and our pals over at CinemaBlend had a chance to speak with Evan Goldberg about his upcoming projects.

Goldberg and Rogen have been behind some of my favorite films nad have defined action comedy genre. My personal favorites have been Superbad and Pineapple Express. Ever since Express was released in theaters fans have bee hoping for a sequel, myself included. The rumors have been going on for quite some time regarding this sequel, not to fear it is definitley in the works and looking good. Surprisingly the biggest obstacle in the way of the sequel has been Goldberg himself.

I’ve been the one stopping it. Because I was just like, not to say we’re the greatest filmmakers on Earth – as the Coen brothers kind of are – but they didn’t make Blood Simple 2. They didn’t make The Big Lebowski 2. And I keep thinking – and again, they’re much smarter than us and much more sophisticated and much better at all of this – but I look at them as some of my idols and I’m just like, “Really?” But then I think about Lethal Weapons. They made four of them and I loved every one of them.

The good news is that there are already three versions of the story planned out. It may take some time to get into production because of scheduling issues for those involved. Despite the enormous fan support, Goldberg is hesitant about making the sequel.

I still don’t know what’s going to happen. Now everyone’s super famous so now we have to work on all of these deals. We probably won’t have time for like two years. I’m warming up to it. I’m still hesitant though. If it was terrible, it really would have a damaging effect on our career in a massive way. But, man, would I just like to work with all of those guys again.

Fans of Superbad are not going to be happy about this, but Goldberg's response to the possibility of a sequel as follows: “In the end, really, if we made a Superbad 2 that would be putting a bullet in our head.”

If you have read the site you've seen us talk about Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypsewhich stars Rogen and Jay Baruchel as survivors of the biblical apocalypse trying to carve out a life for themselves while trying not to choke each other out. The project, which is based on a trailer, is currently in the outline process with a first run-through of the outline already finished. Goldberg has confirmed that it is “Super fucking real.”

Goldberg and Rogen have been hired to do a rewrite on Neighborhood Watch for Fox. The story of a group of dads who form a group in the name of public safety, but actually use it as a means to get a break from their families.  Rogen is not slated to star unfortunately. When asked what drew them to the script they stated,“It’s a super fun idea because it’s broader than anything we’ve kind of done before.” The first draft is already completed and at Fox and the duo continue to work on it.

Sausage Party is a vulgar CG animated film about sausages that get lost in the grocery store right before Fourth of July. Desperately wanting to be purchased, they try and make their way back to their aisle before it’s too late. According to Goldberg, this is the project they are the most passionate about getting made. The animatores are in place, the script is 100% completed and financing could be announced as early as Monday.

All of these projects sound pretty cool. A a fan I am really hoping that Express gets it's sequel. Which of these films are you most looking forward to seeing?
