New Line sweeps up CATEGORY SIX spec script

Another "found footage" movie is whirling it's way onto the big screen thanks to New Line Cinema. Deadline reports that the studio just acquired a spec deal for Category Six for about $300,000. The natural disaster film was written by John Swetnam and takes "a first-person POV through video cameras and cell phones to tell the story of high school students who try to survive the worst tornado in U.S. history." Todd Garner is producing under his Broken Road banner.

This is the second recent Hollywood purchase of a project that takes place during extreme weather. Earlier we reported that Fox bought Riders On The Storm, to be written by Sean O’Keefe about a crew that pulls a series of heists in an extreme weather event. Tornadoes can really be intense and frightening experiences, so this should make for a cool movie.
