THE RAID confirmed for English-language remake from Screen Gems

In September we reported the rumor that Screen Gems was planning a remake of The Raid. Comingsoon has now confirmed that the remake is officially happening. 

Gareth Evans directed the original film that tells the  story of "an elite SWAT team that becomes trapped in a tenement run by a notorious drug lord, his two highly violent martial arts killers, and a personal militia armed with machetes and machine guns. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the SWAT unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission."

The Indonesian action film had a great showing earlier this year at the Toronto Film Festival, and will now receive an English-language version fromm XYZ Films, which produced the original film as well. Evans will serve as exec producer only, and will not write or direct this new English language film. The fight choreographers of the original film will also be involved with this remake.
