We've already seen a few photos from the set of Tom Hooper's Les Miserables. But today Hugh Jackman tweeted out an official photo of himself as Jean Valjean. My dad did a lot of musical theater productions while I was growing up, so I know this musical extremely well. I'm a big fan of it, and I hope everyone involved does it justice on the big screen.
As we previously reported: The film is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, and tells the powerful story of "broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever." The film also stars Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, and Samantha Barks.
The script for the film was written by William Nicholson, and it will be the musical version. The musical's original producer, Cameron Mackintosh, is producing the film as well. The original score by composer Claude-Michel Schoenberg will be used for the film, and he has even written a new song for Jackman to sing in the movie.
The film is set to hit theaters on December 14th, 2012. What do you think of Jackman's look?
