Bryan Singer Confirms Angel Will Appear in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
While the news of Hugh Jackman's eventual departure from the X-Men universe has been the big mutant-related topic of the day, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer has posted some new concept art to his Instagram for his upcoming film and it confirms that the mutant Angel will appear in the movie. The art shows Angel trapped in some sort of prison display while a crowd watches him from the shadows.
It's a creepy image, but the Angel confirmation makes sense given that this movie's villain will be the titular Apocalypse. In the comics, Apocalypse gives Angel metallic organic wings that allow him to shoot feathers like missiles from his back if he becomes one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, and since Angel is in the middle of some tough times, he accepts the offer. This leads to a series of traumatic events in the character's life, and ultimately his name change from Angel to Archangel.
Ben Foster played Angel in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, and we seriously doubt he'll be returning since they're recasting most of the main characters in this movie and aiming for younger people like Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Earlier rumors pegged British actor Ben Hardy as playing Angel in this film, though that still remains unconfirmed at this time.
What do you think? Excited about X-Men: Apocalypse? What plot points from the comics are you hoping to see translated into this film?
