Channing Tatum Wants a GHOSTBUSTERS Spin-off Film with Chris Pratt

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is currently developing an all-female Ghostbusters reboot for Sony Pictures, and it seems like most fans of the franchise aren't too excited about it. I do have some interesting news that might spark some interest in you, though. Channing Tatum is looking to do a spin-off of this new reboot that would star himself and Chris Pratt, which is something I would actually like to see!

According to emails that the Daily Beast has gone through, Tatum pitched Sony executives on the idea. This is what he had to say about the franchise as a whole:

“Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise. Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!”

I have to say, I love Tatum's enthusiasm. It seems like he brought in Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) to produce the project as well, which is another insanely smart idea. Now here are the details of the film that were outlined in an email by Hannah Minghella, co-President of Production for Columbia Pictures:

“So… in a curious turn of events - the Russos and Channing want to develop Ghostbusters as a vehicle for Channing and Chris Pratt to do together. The Russos, Channing and Reid have been brainstorming ideas and want to create a whole new mythology that would support multiple movies (the way that Nolan reinvented Batman). To be clear - the Russos want to produce (not direct) and while Channing and Chris are looking for a movie to do together they haven't mentioned this to him yet because they weren't sure how we'd react. They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat. I know we're mid negotiations with Paul [Feig]. I'm not sure whether we'd ever develop two different versions simultaneously. Joe Russo is open to the idea that both movies could be developed in partnership so they compliment one another within the same Ghostbusters universe. Apparently the Russos are very close to Paul and Joe suggested Paul could be attached to direct both. Personally I think it's possible for the female version to co-exist with this other version so maybe they're not.

I do like that they want to make the movie super funny and super scary. I'll admit I'm intrigued by the idea, mostly because of the people involved. Tatum and Pratt as Ghostbusters in a story being developed by the Russo brothers could be great. But I still have that nostalgic attachment to the original films, and I don't want to see it get a crappy reboot. Maybe it won't be crappy, though. Maybe it will be good. It's obviously too early to tell. It seems like these movies are moving forward regardless of how the fans feel about them, so maybe it's time to start be a little more accepting of all this.

On top of that, Ryan Gosling also wants to be a part of the Ghostbusters movie currently in develiopment. This bit of news also comes from the Daily Beast, which also reveals that Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence are on the director's wish list of actresses to join the project. It was also recently revealed that Rebel Wilson has met with Feig about a part.

I'm curious to see how this all shakes out. Do you think this Ghostbusters project has potential?
