Chris Pine Cast as Steve Trevor in WONDER WOMAN
There were rumors that Scott Eastwood would be playing Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor in Suicide Squad, but now we know that isn't true. Variety reports that Star Trek star Chris Pine has been cast in that role in Warner Bros.' upcoming Wonder Woman standalone film (and presumably other films in the Justice League franchise as well).
Eastwood was reportedly given the chance to either audition for Steve Trevor or take a guaranteed smaller role in Suicide Squad, and he ended up choosing the mystery role. It's unclear whether Pine's Steve Trevor will make an appearance in David Ayer's supervillain movie to connect it to the events of the Wonder Woman movie.
In the comics, Steve Trevor is a WWII fighter pilot who crashes on Paradise Island, where the Amazonian princess Diana nurses him back to health and falls in love with him. She eventually returns with him to the outside world, where she adopts the moniker of Diana Prince and becomes Trevor's co-worker, as well as the superhero Wonder Woman. Pine (whose Gaston-esque prince was the best part of Into the Woods) seems like a great fit for the part, and it'll be cool to see how he interacts with Gal Gadot's lead character.
Patty Jenkins will direct Wonder Woman from a script by Jason Fuchs (Pan), and the film arrives in theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
