JOHN WICK Directors Tackling BLOODSHOT Movie Adaptation

According to THR, John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch — who are already developing a comic book adaptation with Cowboy Ninja Viking — will be directing another comic book movie soon, kicking off yet another new cinematic universe.

Sony Pictures has teamed with Valiant Entertainment for a five picture deal to bring adaptations of two comic series, Bloodshot and Harbinger, to the big screen. The properties will receive two solo films each before coming together in a crossover film called Harbinger Wars. The first movie in this plan, Bloodshot, is being directed by Stahelski and Leitch, written by Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) and Eric Heisserer (The Thing 2011), and executive produced by Jason Kothari and Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

Directors are being kept under wraps for Harbinger and the eventual crossover movie, but Heisserer will write Harbinger while Fast & Furious producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe will produce all five films in the franchise. I'm not familiar with Valiant Entertainment and their comic books, so I'm sure those of you who are right there with me are wondering what the heck these movies will even be about. Here's the breakdown:

Bloodshot follows "a soldier brought back from the dead by a secret government agency, turned into an unstoppable killing machine with no memory powered by nanotechnology." Harbinger "is a next-generation X-Men-esque storyline about a group of superpowered beings on the run from the Harbinger Foundation, an organization run by a mysterious philanthropist Toyo Harada."

Cinematic universes are all the rage right now, so it's not surprising that another company would try to emulate Marvel's success. Based on what little I know about Bloodshot, it seems like Stahelski and Leitch are well-qualified to bring that action-packed story to the big screen, so I'm curious to see what these films end up looking like when they're eventually released. Bloodshot is aiming for a 2017 release.
