Keanu Reeves To Star in China-Set Racing Film RALLY CAR
Deadline is reporting that Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in a film called Rally Car, which is being described as "The Cannonball Run set in China." If you've never seen The Cannonball Run, I'd recommend checking it out — it's a 1981 comedy with an all-star cast including Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLouise, Roger Moore, Jackie Chan, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and many more. The basic plot involves an insane cross-country race with ludicrous teams doing whatever they can to win, including sabotaging the other teams, talking their way out of traffic tickets, and all sorts of other nonsense.
Rally Car is the latest example of pandering to the ever-growing Chinese market (if it's a Chinese co-production, the movie has advantages over regular Hollywood movies and can make more money from the theatrical split), but taking cynicism out of the picture for a second, if this movie can gather a contemporary cast with star power similar to the one the 1981 film had, it might be fun to watch regardless of which country they're racing across. There's no director attached yet, but Jeremy Lott — the guy who wrote Hood — wrote the script. We'll keep you posted when we hear more.
