List of 5 Directors up for STAR TREK 3 Includes Duncan Jones
Since Roberto Orci stepped away from the director's chair for Star Trek 3, we've heard a rumor that Edgar Wright was wanted for the job. Then Star Trek: First Contact director Jonathan Frakes threw his name into the hat hoping to get the job. Now we have a list of five directors that are currently in the running to take on the challenge. Those directors include: Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), Justin Lin (Fast & Furious), and Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft).
Out of this current list, which comes from Deadline, my favorite choice is Duncan Jones. I think he's the most talented of the bunch, and could really bring something new, fun, and unique to the franchise that none of those other directors could bring. My second choice would be Wyatt, because he did do a great job with Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
No release date has been set yet, but it's believed that the plan is to release the film in 2016, as that year marks the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and John Cho are all expected to reprise their roles as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. No plot details have been divulged, but it looks like William Shatner is going to finally make an appearance in these newer films.
