Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters Can Appear in Sony's Standalone SPIDER-MAN Movies
When the deal was announced that Sony's new Spider-Man would be able join the heroes of Marvel Cinematic Universe, I didn't even think about what that might mean for the future of Sony's standalone films. But according to an interview with THR, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that characters from the MCU can appear in the Spider-Man films as well.
After Civil War, how much will Marvel be involved in Sony's Spider-Man movie?
FEIGE Well, we're producing it for Sony. It's exciting, and we're treating it like we treat all of our films. To try to make the best version now of Spider-Man and a version of Spider-Man that inhabits this universe that we've created. We're in lockstep with [Sony Motion Picture Group chairman] Tom Rothman and [producer] Amy Pascal at every turn.
So some of your Marvel characters will show up in the Sony Spider-Man movies?
FEIGE Specifics of the story aside, the agreement that has been made between Sony and Marvel is that we could do that.
That's a game-changing piece of information, because it means that Sony can benefit directly by having any of Marvel's mega-stars show up in their films. It's easy to imagine Stark, Banner, and Parker doing Science Bro stuff together, trying to come up with solutions to big problems. And it's not only the heroes who could help Sony's Spider-Man movies soar: it's the villains, as well. What if Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin from Daredevil showed up in a Spidey movie? I really hope that ends up happening, and now I'm reeling from all of the possible ways these characters could cross over into each other's films. Things just got a lot more interesting.
