Marvel's LUKE CAGE Will Be Scored By A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad

A Tribe Called Quest's Ali Shaheed Muhammad has been hired to create the musical score for Marvel's Luke Cage Netflix series with composer and producer Adrian Younge. I'm already excited for Luke Cage, but getting Shaheed Muhammad to help write the score is pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of the hip hop group who released their first album in 1991. These guys helped change hip hop music and take it to a new level.

Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker confirmed the collaboration with Entertainment Weekly, saying:

“It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking. We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us.”

I can't wait to hear what they've come up with for the series. It sounds like it will have that classic hip hop vibe that fans of A Tribe Called Quest love. Coker went on to say:

“We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama. I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”

Whoa! I love that they are comparing this series to HBO's The Wire, which is one of my favorite series of all time. Sounds like fans of Marvel are in for something really special with Luke Cage

Luke Cage is set to premiere on Netflix September 30th.
