SUICIDE SQUAD 2 Might Be Rated R
Suicide Squad is going to be the first PG-13 movie David Ayer has directed, but it sounds like he wants to take it up a notch for the sequel.
In an interview with MTV, Ayer spoke about the first movie's rating and how he thinks it's going to surprise people:
“For an R movie, you have to decide to do it right out the gate, and that was never the case here. We were always going to hit the PG-13 rating. But the film is meant to be that. It’s got edge, and it’s got attitude. And it’s got its own voice…There’s a lot in the film that’s going to surprise people.”
But since WB is already planning on a sequel, how about deciding right out of the gate that THAT movie will be rated R? After all, Deadpool has proven that an R-rated superhero movie can be not only successful, but insanely profitable. And Wolverine 3 appears to have an R rating, too. Ayer's response? “It would be worth lobbying for.” Sounds like it's an option for the time being, but it doesn't take a genius to think that the reception of the first movie will have a lot to do with how the second one is approached.
Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5th, and the sequel is being eyed for 2017.
