SUICIDE SQUAD: Joel Kinnaman in Negotiations to Replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg

A few weeks ago, it seemed as if there was a new rumor about Suicide Squad every day. Tom Hardy was initially cast as Rick Flagg, then he bailed, and guys like Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Bernthal, Joel Edgerton, and Karl Urban were being considered as replacements. But now The Wrap reports that The Killing and Robocop star Joel Kinnaman is in negotiations to take over the role in David Ayer's upcoming Warner Bros./DC supervillain movie.

The movie centers on a group of supervillains who work on secret government operations in exchange for a reduced sentence. Kinnaman will join Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Jared Leto as the Joker. (Click here to hear Smith and Robbie's latest comments about Suicide Squad from earlier this morning.) Viola Davis is in talks to play Amanda Waller, while Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to be reprising his Batman V Superman role of Lex Luthor in this movie.

I have to admit it: Kinnaman isn't exactly a guy that gets me super excited about any upcoming project. He was really solid in Snabba Cash a few years ago, but to me, he's in the same league with his future co-star Jai Courtney - one of those Sam Worthington-type actors that Hollywood seems to be actively trying to turn into a star. Hopefully the role of Rick Flagg will be meaty enough for him to make a lasting impression.

Suicide Squad blasts into theaters on August 5th, 2016.
