Terry Gilliam Wants John Hurt to Play Don Quixote

Terry Gilliam is slowly in the process of realizing his dream of bringing Don Quixote to life on the big screen. This is a project that he has gone through hell for over the last 30 years. It looks like it actually starting to take some shape, and he's now got the funding to make it happen.

The movie will be called The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, and a few months ago Gilliam released a new piece of concept art for the project created by Dave Warren

The director is currently getting deep into the casting process of the film, and he's looking at none other than John Hurt to fill the title role. Hurt is an amazing actor and perfect for this part. I would really love to see that casting happen.

Over the weekend, Hurt was part of a Q&A at the Derby Film Festival, and it was there that the actor revealed that Gilliam has at least asked him about the idea. He didn’t go into any details on the role or if he was in negotiations, but talking about it is a good start!

The movie will most likely start shooting sometime in 2015, and I imagine we'll have some official casting announcements in the near future. I'm a big fan of Gilliam's work, and this is a project that I've wanted to see since I first heard about it.
