That DEADPOOL Movie We Are All Excited About Will Be PG-13
Earlier this week it was officially announced that FOX will release the long-awaited Deadpool movie on February 12th, 2016. This is something fans have been waiting to see for years, and it's exciting to know that it's actually going to happen, but that comes with a price.
Apparently, the reason FOX gave the movie the green light was because the script was re-purposed by director Tim Miller to fit a PG-13 rating. The studio wouldn't have made the movie otherwise. The news comes from In the latest edition of Schmoes Know's "Meet the Movie Press" podcast, and this is what was said:
"I heard from the director that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all gonna hate this, they figured out how to make it PG-13. And therefore 'not lose its soul,' and that' a quote, of the script so that they can make it."
I know this is a total bummer because we all know that Deadpool is a very rated 'R' character, and it's hard to imagine that they can fully realize this character in PG-13. Hell, even Wolverine hasn't been fully realized on film yet! He's a rated R character too. Even if Marvel owned the rights to Deadpool, though, it's not like they would make a rated R Deadpool movie, especially since it's a Disney brand. FOX was really our one shot at that rated R film we were all hoping for, but it's not going to happen. This hasn't been confirmed, but knowing the history of trying to get this movie made over the last few years it makes sense that this would be the case.
I'm still excited for the movie, just not as much as I was. They say it won't lose "its soul" in the process, but they obviously had to make sacrifices to tone it down for a PG-13 rating. If you look on the bright side though, at least we are going to get to see a Deadpool movie. In the end you just have to ask yourself… would you rather have no Deadpool movie or a PG-13 Deadpool movie?
