VENOM Will Reportedly Be an R-Rated Movie That Launches a Cinematic Universe

While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are sharing Spider-Man, Sony is developing a whole other separate Marvel Cinematic Universe with Venom, Silver Sable, Black Cat, and I'm sure there will be more films announced in the near future. Sony apparently owns the rights to 900 Marvel characters, and they are looking to cash in on them.

According to Collider, this separate cinematic universe will be launched with Venom, and that film is apparently being planned as an R-rated movie! I think fans could totally get behind an R-rated Venom film, especially if it leads to an R-rated Carnage movie! They can't have a cinematic universe with Venom and not Carnage!

We all knew that films like Deadpool and Logan would help pave the way for R-rated comic book movies, but we also know it's not the rating that makes a film good or bad! It's the story and script! So hopefully they are able to develop those properly. It's going to be interesting to see if they can pull this off without the help of Marvel unless Marvel is quietly helping them behind the scenes.

It was previously reported that the script for Venom is being written by Dante Harper (Alien: Covenant), and Alex Kurtzman is also attached to direct. The film even has a release date of October 5, 2018. The Black Cat and Silver Sable movie is being written by Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost.

I really hope that Sony Pictures can actually pull this off! It's just so weird that we'll be seeing all of this happen without Spider-Man. Not sure how that's going to work, but we'll find out! What do you all think about the possibility of seeing an R-rated Venom film?
