Vision and Ultron's Origins Revealed in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Promo Art
The Disney marketing machine is ramping up the promotional material for Avengers: Age of Ultron and some of it has found its way onto Reddit. In one image we get a really sharp look at Vision (Paul Bettany) coming out of a wall and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) striking a pose. More interesting than the images is the text bios for Vision and Ultron, which reveal their origins.
Spoiler Alert — If you don't want to know, don't go any further.
Vision Biography:
"Programmed by the combined geniuses of Tony Stark & Bruce Banner, and imparted with the ability to fly, project intense energy beams and change the density of his form, the Vision has proved himself a worthy hero, aiding the Avengers in their struggle against the evil A.I. Ultron"
This info seems to contradict comic canon in which Ultron creates The Vision. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Joss Whedon also said the Vision origin sticks close to comic canon. Mark Ruffalo recently said Banner has been helping Stark with something. We all assumed it was Ultron when Rufallo added that the experiment went wrong. It would be interesting if what went wrong resulted in Vision.
Ultron Biography:
"First discovered as a simple computer program hidden among the ruins of the Chitauri invasion of New York, the being known as Ultron soon completed it's development into a sophisticated artifical intelligence after some experimentation by Tony Stark. Ultron's first shocking ultimatum upon gaining consciousness was to declare the human race its enemy. Setting out to exterminate all life on the planet, the unstable and emotional Ultron seeks to upgrade its mechanical body to an ultimate, unstoppable form. With an army of robotic drones and the ability to enter and corrupt any computer network, Ultron will stop at nothing to see humanity wiped out."
Ultron starts out as a Chitauri program, interesting. In a LEGO set, Ultron drones are stealing Loki's scepter, which makes me believe that the scepter initiates a hidden part of Ultron's programing. Promo material often contains only shades of truth in order to protect the real plot, but supported by other bits that have leaked out, this does give us a somewhat clearer picture.
