What To Do at San Diego Comic-Con Without a Pass - Day 2
With day one follies out of the way, it's time to find out where the action is.
Nerdist, with some help from Geek and Sundry and Smart Girls, is putting on a Comic-Con adjacent event called Conival. It's completely free and it's amazing how much you can do there. As soon as you enter, you're staring down three LEGO raptors ready to be Chris Pratt-ed. Head up to the main floor and prepare to be assaulted by the sheer number of things to do: Battleborn, Dragonball Z, Jousting, and free panels. I like to think of it as a condensed con.
I'm pretty sure Chris Hardwick just called all his friends and said 'Hey, let's put on a show for all of the people who like us and might not be able to get into Comic-Con.' Because as I'm walking through, I see Paul F. Tompkins sitting at a small panel just talking with fans and signing autographs just 10 feet away. I looked and didn't see any signs saying '$50 per squiggle'. Felicia Day was cracking jokes and answering questions from the crowd.
It warmed the deepest fandom of my heart to know that there are celebrities who love what they do and are excited to share that with us. If you're here, don't feel like you're left out in the cold. In fact, I should say put on sunblock. Get yourself to PetCo park and try to beat my power level in Frieza's army tent. It's over 9000!
