Zack Snyder Teases REBEL MOON 3 Plans and Talks About His 6-Hour Director's Cuts

As director Zack Snyder is out promoting his upcoming Netflix film Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, he offers an update on his planned director's cuts for the first two films, revealing they will clock in at six hours. Oh yeah, he’s also got a third film planned!

While talking to Forbes, the filmmaker confirmed that each of the two Rebel Moon movies will be three hours long. That’s six hours of Rebel Moon! Obviously, you don’t have to do that in one sitting! The two films include Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver.

Snyder talked about those, saying: "Yeah, the director’s cuts are three hours each, so if you were to watch the director’s cuts back-to-back, it’s a six-hour affair but I think it’s going to be fun and definitely worth it.”

He went on to explain: “What’s exciting is that on April 19, you’ll be able to watch Part One and Two together, if you feel like doing that. I cut the movies in half. I wrote it as a single story and then kind of broke it in half."

He added: "You can’t underestimate that immersive feeling that you would get going all the way through the two movies. With the director’s cuts, that’s just going to be more intense because of the additional scenes and the sort of coloring in the corners of the world in the way that we’re able to do, frankly, with more scenes and more time."

As for when the extended cuts will be available to watch on Netflix, the director said: "We don’t have a hard date but probably sometime in August, I would say."

He goes on to talk about the third film they’ve been developing, saying: "We have definitely been working on a Part Three, as far as the story goes. We definitely know where we’re all headed - we’ve known that for quite a while, to be honest. So yeah, I’m excited to make some more Rebel Moon movies - that would be fun..."

I’m curious to see how long Netflix will let Snyder play in the Rebel Moon universe that he’s created. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how many people show up to watch the sequel and the director’s cuts. Snyder obviously wants to continue!

While the first movie wasn’t very good, Snyder does have a strong fan base that will continue to show up and support his work.

In the first film, "After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers.

“But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) — leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

"Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Bae Doona), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose.

“But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all."

The Scargiver “continues the epic saga of Kora “and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting with the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld.”

On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, great heroes emerge, and legends are made…”
