Zendaya is Reportedly Playing a Well-Known Character in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
When it was first announced that Zendaya was cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, there was really no information on who she would be playing. It was initially reported that the name of her character was Michelle and then that name was backed up by director Jon Watts during an interview at Comic-Con. According to The Wrap, she might actually be playing a different character. If you don't want to know who it is, you probably shouldn't read ahead.
The latest report says that Zendaya will be playing long-time Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson. According to inside sources, "at least one recent draft of the script has Zendaya’s character dropping several clues to her identity as Mary Jane."
So the script doesn't come right out and say that she's Mary Jane? Is she in some kind of witness protection program where she is going to go by the name of Michelle in the film? Why would a script only "drop clues" about who this character is?
It doesn't make sense to me. Just because she is Peter Parker's love interest doesn't mean it's going to be Mary Jane Watson, especially with how Marvel has been switching things up with their films. Also, it doesn't really make sense to keep this character a secret, unless her identity really is part of some kind of twist like being in a witness protection program.
The Wrap has proven to be a reliable source for the most part, but I'm just not convinced of this latest rumor. Maybe it's legit, maybe it's not. We'll just have to wait and see. What do you think about the possibility of her playing Mary Jane?
