Full Trailer for THE KARATE KID Remake
If you were pleasantly surprised by the teaser trailer for Sony Pictures' The Karate Kid remake, then this full theatrical trailer delivers more of the unexpected coming-of-age drama. We actually get to see plenty of tournament footage as well.
The film was produced by Will Smith and stars his son Jaden Smith as the Karate Kid, Dre; Taraji P. Henson as his mother, and Jackie Chan as the Mr. Miyagi-type character, Mr. Han.
Official Synopsis:
In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
My only gripe is the back and forth name change between the Karate Kid and the more apt but not used Kung-Fu Kid -- the movie takes place in China, and the fighting style they are using is Kung Fu.
This actually looks to be the most dramatic role Chan has ever done, and from the trailer he's doing it well. The Test Screenings already performed in the 97th percentile!!!!
Again, they reestablish the "jacket on, jacket off" in place of the original's "wax on, wax off." And there are plenty of other throw back gags as well.
Check it out and let us know what you think!
