A "F –k James Gunn" Party Was Thrown By GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Co-Writer After Gunn Tried to Keep Her Out of Credits

It looks like fan-favorite director James Gunn has a competitive mean streak in him. The recently released book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios includes a behind the scenes story involving Guardians of the Galaxy and how Gunn didn’t want to share writing credit with the film’s co-writer, Nicole Perlman. In fact, he apparently actively tried to keep her name out of the credits of the movie so that he would have sole credit.

Perlman fought back for her credit, though, and when she won, she threw a "f*ck James Gunn" party! The book alleges that Gunn used bullying tactics to try to keep Perlman's name out of the credits. Perlman actually wrote the original story for the film, and a lot of her original ideas made it into the final cut of the film, including Star-Lord's backstory. Thor screenwriter Zack Stentz revealed:

"Nicole had to knife-fight for her credit on Guardians of the Galaxy. But she is probably the preeminent female action tent pole writer now because she was the first woman to have her name on not just a Marvel movie, but on a Marvel movie that people really love.”

He then talked about the party and shared what he’s still angry about in regard to the situation and what Gunn was doing to keep her name off the credits:

"She threw a party when the movie came out literally called the 'F*ck James Gunn' party because she had won that very bruising credit arbitration. The thing that I'm still angry about, and I say this as a fan of James Gunn as a director, was that he very clearly was selectively leaking stuff to his friends and the fanboy media circles to undermine her credit. When Matthew Vaughn decided to have a temper tantrum over the fact that we got screen credit [on X-Men: First Class], at least he did it under his own name."

The book also included a quote from Perlman, which says she "credits everybody in the movie, including James, for making it so beautiful."

I’m sure that Gunn will eventually respond to this story, and since he says he never lies to his fans about things, he’ll give us the truth! This just goes to show that Hollywood is a cutthroat place to be a part of. Even the people who come off as being nice and respectful play dirty sometimes.
