A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN Series Co-Creator and Star Abbi Jacobson Angry About the Show's Cancelation

Over the weekend, it was announced that Amazon Studios had given a cancelation to two of its series, A League of Their Own and the sci-fi series The Peripheral. The problem with the cancelation was that both series had been renewed for second seasons earlier this year, so both of the shows creators and stars really had the rug pulled out from under them. The streamer cited the SAG/AFTRA strike for the reason to cancel, stating that they didn’t know when the shows would be able to return to shoot their second seasons, but according to that logic, all shows and movies would be canceled forever, which is obviously ridiculous.

A League of Their Own series co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson took to social media to talk about the heartbreak of the show’s untimely end, saying:

What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today.

To blame this cancellation on the strike, (which is an essential fight for fair wages, protections and working conditions, etc…) is bullshit and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.

This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value.

Thank you for watching.

To the five. ❤️

Amazon had already announced that A League of Their Own was only getting a limited second season, which would be its last, so the writers were already facing a limited timeframe to wrap up its story. Now we don’t get to see how it played out. I loved this series very much, and the important historical LGBTQ stories that it told. I am sad to see it go. Maybe we could see it move to another streamer? Only time will tell. Check out the post below, and let us know if you’d like to see the series return in some capacity.
