A New GODZILLA Anime Is Coming and It Completely Reimagines the King of the Monsters
Godzilla is having a massive moment across movies, television, and now anime. With Godzilla Minus One gearing up for a sequel, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova roaring toward release, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returning on Apple TV for Season 2, the legendary kaiju continues to dominate every corner of entertainment.
Now Toho is expanding that footprint with a brand new anime series that takes the character in a completely unexpected direction, and fans are already talking about how wild this new version looks.
At Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2025, Toho revealed that an all new Godzilla anime is officially in production. The surprising twist is that the destructive might of the kaiju now resides inside a boy.
How he ended up with the power of the King of the Monsters is still a mystery, but Toho shared the first details of the project and an early look at its protagonist. Studio ORANGE, the team behind Godzilla: Singular Point, is returning to bring the series to life, though a final title has not yet been announced.
Toho released the first synopsis for the project: “Worldwide Release! Godzilla New Anime Series, Production Confirmed. For the first time in the series’ over 70-year history, a story with a ‘boy who possesses Godzilla’s power’ as the protagonist begins. Is that boy human, or Godzilla.”
The announcement came with commentary from key creative voices who teased the show’s larger themes. Keiji Ota, Senior Managing Executive Officer at Toho, explained the ambition behind the story.
“This film is a first for the series, featuring a boy who possesses the power of Godzilla, and we believe it will be able to more deeply portray both the fear and hope of the modern era.
