A Script For THE FLASH Sequel Was Already Written; But It Probably Won't Be Used
As Warner Bros. is preparing to release DC Studios’ highly anticipated film The Flash, we have learned from Variety that a script for the sequel was already written. That script was written by Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and it’s said that it would have featured Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. However, it’s unlikely this script will be used.
I’m pretty confident that The Flash is going to be a huge hit at the box office, and I’m sure the studio is going to want to make a sequel. When previously asked about a potential sequel about a month ago, director Andy Muschietti claimed that he “didn’t talk about it” with DC Studios and that the continuation all depends on who the first movie does at the box office. He said:
“I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing and it’s being created. And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story?”
Well, they thought about it enough to write a script for a sequel! Muschietti does go on to say that he thinks the introduction of the multiverse opens the door for another installment:
“The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact, and so, hopefully, yes, I mean, we don’t know yet. That’s the truth.”
One thing that we can expect to see in a sequel is the return of Ezra Miller as Berry Alan aka The Flash. The director recently said he has no plans to recast Miller despite the actor’s recent history of legal troubles and abuse. When asked if he wants Miller to return, the filmmaker said:
“If [a sequel] happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”
The Flash producer Barbara Muschietti added: “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”
In the first film coming out, "Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian... albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The movie also stars Ben Affleck as Batman, and Michael Shannon as Zod, with Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú who are playing Barry’s parents. Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) and internet personality Rudy Mancuso will also appear.
The Flash will be released on June 16th 2023.
