A Sequel to the James Gunn-Produced BRIGHTBURN Movie Is Still in the Works
The James Gunn-produced 2019 supervillain horror movie Brightburn is still getting a sequel. The first film is basically a Superman-inspired horror story, which centers on an alien child who crash-lands on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero, he becomes a murderous villain.
It was recently reported that The H Collective, who produced Brightburn, is going to be launching a new company titled H3 Entertainment. The company is said to be incorporating new technology such as the Metaverse, Web3, and artificial intelligence into their upcoming projects. Brightburn is listed as one of the projects they will be developing.
There are no details on the production timeline, but the sequel in in the works. Brightburn was directed by David Yarovesky and written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, the brother and cousin of James Gunn. There’s no word on who from the original team will be involved with the sequel.
Yarovesky previously said of a sequel: "If we were to expand the Brightburn universe in other installments and in other ways, we would probably be doing it in the exact same way… in total secrecy and then drop a cinematic trailer at some point that kind of teaches you what that new direction may be."
In the post-credits scene of the film, it teased am evil Justice League. The scene features a talk show host The Big T, who was played by Michael Rooker, announcing that there is a "half man, half sea creature" in the ocean, as well as a powerful witch who chokes her victims with a rope.
The movie starred Elizabeth Banks, David Benman, and Jackson A. Dunn. The synopsis reads: “What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”
